उपकर्तुं यथा स्वल्प: समर्थो न तथा महान् |
प्रायः कूपस्तृषां हन्ति सततं न तु वारिधिः ||
अर्थ - उपकार करने में जितना समर्थ एक साधारण व्यक्ति हो सकता है उतना एक महान् व्यक्ति नहीं हो सकता है , उदाहरणार्थ एक कुंवां लगातार लोगों की प्यास बुझाता है न कि एक महासागर |
Upakartum yathaa swalpah samartho na tathaa mahaaan.
Praayh koopastrushaam hanti satatam na tu vaaridhih.
Upakartum = a helper. Yathaa = as, for instance. Swalpah = little. Samartho = capable,
able. Na = not. Tathaa = so, thus. Mahaan = great. Praayah = probably, usually.
Koopastrushaam = Koopa + trushaam. Koopa = a well. Trushaam = thirst.
Hanti = wards off, destroys. Satatam = continuously. Tu = but. Vaaridhi = ocean, sea.
i.e. An ordinary person is more capable than a great person in helping others e.g. usually a well continuously quenches the thirst of people, but not the vast Ocean.
