Today's Subhashita.

Sushilo maatru punyena pitru punyena chaaturah.
Audaaryam vamsha punyena aatma punyena bhaagyavaan.

Sushilo = good tempered.     Maatru = mother.    Punyena = on account of moral and religious merit.
(Punya is a concept of Hindu Religion according to which by leading a virtuous and pious life a person earns certain plus points, which entitle him to enjoy a comfortable and virtuous lifestyle in his next birth cycle or even during his lifetime.)       Pitru = father.      Chaaturah = skilled, cleaver.
Audaarya = generosity.    Vamsha = family dynasty.     Aatma = self.     Bhaagyaan = lucky.

i.e.      A person becomes good tempered due to the 'Punyas' of his mother and  becomes skilled
due to the 'Punya' of his father.   He becomes generous due to,his family dynasty, and becomes lucky due to his own 'Punya' .

(It is well established that parents and particularly the mother, play a very important role in shaping the personality of a child. Generosity is a trait which runs through a dynasty and is inherited by the descendants.  This aspect has been beautifully brought out in the above Subhashita through the concept of 'Punya' of Hindu Religion.)
