अपारे काव्य संसारे कविरेव प्रजापतिः |
यथा वै रोचते विश्वं तथेदं परिवर्तते ||
अर्थ - इस अपार काव्य संसार में कवि भी विश्व के सृष्टा ब्रह्म के
समान आचरण करता है | जिस प्रकार ब्रह्म इस विश्व में अपनी इच्छानुसार
परिवर्तन करता रहता है वैसे ही कवि भी अपनी मर्जी का मलिक होता है |
(हिन्दी में एक कहावत है - 'जहां न पहुंचे रवि वहां पहुंचे कवि ' अर्थात कवि की
कल्पनाशीलता की कोई सीमा नहीं होती है और वह अपने काव्य द्वारा समाज में
महत्त्वपूर्ण परिवर्तन लाने में सक्षम होता है | इसी तथ्य को इस सुभाषित द्वारा
प्रजापति ब्रह्म की उपमा के द्वारा प्रतिपादित किया है )
Apaare kaavya sansaare kavireva prajaapatih .
Yathaa vai rochate vishvam tathdam parivartate.
Apaare = boundless. Kavya = poetry. Sansaare = world.
Kavireva = kavih +aiva. Kavih = poet Aiva = is like.
Prajaapatih = God Brahma. Yathaa = as. Vai = a suffix
after a word for giving emphasis to it (reference to Brahama)
Rochate = likes. Vishvam = Universe. Tathaidam = tatha +
idam. Tatha= so. Idam = this. Parivartate = changes.
i.e. In this boundless domain of Poetry, a poet is like the God Brahma, the
Creator of the Universe. As the Brahma makes changes in the Universe as
He pleases, in the same manner a poet is also the master of his free will.
(There is a saying in Hindi which means that a poet can reach a place where
even the Sun can not reach, which implies that the imagination and reach
of a competent poet is boundless. Poets are the harbingers of positive change
in the Society and this fact has been highlighted in this Subhashita by the
use of a simile.)
