Today's Subhashita.

कान्पृच्छामः सुधा स्वर्गे निवसामो वयं भुवि |
किं वा काव्यरसः स्वादुः किं वा स्वादीयसी सुधा ||

अर्थ -      में किस से पूछूं  कि  काव्यरस  (कविता को सुनने से उत्पन्न रसनिष्पत्ति ) के
स्वाद  की तुलना में  क्या  सुधा  (अमृत) अधिक सुस्वादु है , क्यों कि हंम  पृथ्वी में निवास
 करते हैं और सुधा केवल स्वर्ग में ही  उपलब्ध  होती है  ?

(उत्तम  काव्य का रसास्वादन करने की तुलना अमरत्व प्रदान करने वले अमृत से कर इस
सुभाषित द्वारा काव्य की महत्ता को प्रतिपादित किया गया है )

Kaanprucchaamah sudhaa svarge nivaaamo vayam bhuvi .
Kim vaa  kaavyarasah svaaduh kim vaa svaadeeyasee sudhaa.

Kaanprucchaamah = Kaam + prucchaamah.    Kaam  = from whom.
Prucchaamah = enquire.     Sudhaa = beverage of Gods, also called 'Amruta'.
Svarge = the Heaven , abode of Gods.       Nivasaamo = dwelling.
Vayam = we.    Bhuvi = the Earth.    Kim = what, then.     Vaa = is
Kaavyrasah = flavour or sweetness of poetry.    Svaadu = tasty, delicious.
Svaadeeyasee = more savoury than,  sweeter.

i.e.       From whom should I enquire whether the taste of 'Sudha' , the beverage of Gods
 is more sweeter than the  joy of listening to good poetry, because we live on this Earth
and 'Sudhaa is available only in the Heaven.

(In this Subhashita by comparing poetry with the nectar of Gods, the author has highlighted
the importance of good poetry.)
