Today's Subhashita

विद्या  मित्रं  प्रवासेषु  भार्या  मित्रं  ग्रहेषु  च.|
व्याधिस्थौषधं मित्रं धर्मो मित्रं मृतस्य च ||

अर्थ -     विदेश मे निवास करते समय किसी व्यक्ति की विद्वत्ता
उसके लिये एक मित्र के समान सहायक होती है  तथा पारिवारिक
जीवन में उसकी स्त्री एक मित्र के समान होती है |  बीमारी के समय
औषधि (दवायें) मित्र स्वरूप होती हैं और जीवित अवस्था मे किया
हुआ धार्मिक आचरण एक मृत व्यक्ति के लिये उसके अगले जन्म  में
एक मित्र के समान सहायक होता है |

(सनातन धर्म की मान्यता है कि अपने जीवनकाल मे जो व्यक्ति धार्मिक
आचरण करता है वह् अपने अगले जन्म मे समृद्ध और प्रसिद्ध कुल में
जन्म लेता है | इस विषय में भगवतगीता का कथन है कि -"शुचीनां श्रीमतां
गेहे योगभ्रष्टोभिजायते " )

,Vidya mitraam pravaaseshu bhaarya mitram graheshu cha.
Vyaadhisthaushadham mitram dharmo mitram ,mrutasya ch.

Vidya = kn owledge and learninng.   Mitram = a friend
Bhaarya = wife.    Gruheshu = in the household.    Chan = and.
Vyaadhisthaushadham = vyaadhistha + aushadham.
Vyaadhistha _ during sickness.    Aushaudham = medicine.
Dharmo = religiousity.    Mrutasya = a dead person's.

i.e.     The knowledge and learning of a person serves him as a
friend during his stay in an unknown foreign country.and one's wife
also helps as a friend in day to day household affairs.  During
illness medicine acts as a reliable friend and observance of
religiosity  by a person during his lifetime serves as a friend after his
death during his next birth,

(It is believed in Hindu Religion that if a person leads a religious
and virtuous lifestyle during his lifetime, the "Punya" earned by
him for it helps him in being born in an illustrious and rich family,
as mentioned in Bhavatgeeta - "Shucheenaam shrimataam gehe
Yogabhrushtobhijaayate".}
