Asamarthaah prakurvanti munayopyarthasmchayah.
Kim na kurvanti Bhoopaalaa yehaam koshavashaah Prajaa.
Asamarthaah = incapable persons. Prakurvanti = make
special efforts to do it. Munayopyarthasmchayah = Munayo +
api+ arthasmchayah. Munayo = sages. Api = even.
Arthasmchayah = collection or accumulation of wealth. Kim =
what ? Na = not. Kurvanti = do. Bhoopaalaa = kings.
Yeshaam = whose. Koshavashaah = kosha + vashaah.
Kosha = Treasury. Vashaah = controlling power, dependent on
Prajaa = subjects of a king.
i.e. What to say about incapable persons being engaged in accumulating
wealth, even sages do the same. Then to what length the kings (rulers of
countries) will not go to fill the Treasury of their countries(through taxes),
as the rule over the subjects and their welfare is dependent upon it.
(The importance of money and wealth for human welfare has been highlighted
in this Subhashita.)
