Today's Subhashita..

गजभुजङ्गयोरपि   बन्धनं   शशिदिवाकरयोर्ग्रहपीडनम् |
मतिमतां च विलोक्य दरिद्रतां विधिरहो बलवानिति मे मतिः ||  - सुभाषित संग्रह

अर्थ -    अहो !! हाथियों और सांपों को (जो  बलवान  हैं) मनुष्यों की कैद में देख कर ,
सूर्य और चन्द्रमा को  भी (राहु और केतु)  ग्रहों के द्वारा पीडित होते देख कर(सूर्य और
चन्द्रमा के ग्रहण की ज्योतिषीय घटना),तथा बुद्धिमान् और विद्वान् व्यक्तियों को
दरिद्रता में जीवनयापन करते हुए देख कर तो  मेरा यही मानना है कि  भाग्य ही सबसे
अधिक बलवान होता है |
(एक अन्य सुभाषित में भी कहा गया है कि "भाग्यं फलति सर्वत्र न च विद्या न च
पौरुषं " अर्थात भाग्य ही सर्वत्र फलीभूत होता है जिसके सामने विद्या और पुरुषार्थ
भी व्यर्थ  हो  जाते हैं | )

Gajabhujangyorapi  bandhanam shashidivaakarayorgrahapeedanam.
Matimattaam cha vilokya daridrataam vidhiraho balavaaniti me matih.

Gaja+bhujangyoh+ api.     Gaja = an elephant.    Bhujangyoh = snakes
Api = even.      Bandhanam = captivity.    Shashi + Divaakaryoh +graha+
peedanam.      Shashi = the Moon.     Divakaara = the Sun.    Graha =
planets.( indirect reference to the phenomenon of eclipse of Sun and Moon )
Peedanam = torture.   Matimataam = wise and learned persons.
Cha = and.     Vilokya = on seeing.     Daridrataam =  poverty.
Vidhih +aho.       Vidhih=  destiny.          Aho =  Oh !    Balavaan + iti.
Balvaan = powerful.      Iti =  this.      Me =  my.      Matih = opinion.

i.e.       Oh !  by seeing powerful elephants and snakes in the captivity of
men,  the Moon and the Sun being tortured by other planets (Dragon's Head
and Dragon's Tail ), and wise and learned persons living in utter poverty, I am
of the opinion that the Destiny is the most powerful.
