Today's Subhashita.

भाग्यवन्तं  प्रसूयेथा  मा शूरं   मा च  पण्डितं  |
शूरश्च  कृतविद्याश्च  वने सीदन्ति  पाण्डवाः ||   -सुभषितरत्नाकर

अर्थ -    लोगों को भाग्यवान संतान उत्पन्न करनी चाहिये न कि शूर वीर
और विद्वान संतान, क्योंकि शूर तथा विद्वान व्यक्तियों को  सदैव कष्ट
पूर्ण जीवन यापन करना पडता है जैसा कि शूर और विद्वान पाण्डवों को
(अपना राज्य गंवा  कर) वनवास का दुःख झेलना पडा था |

(इस सुभाषित में व्यङ्ग्यात्मक रूप से महाभारत महाकाव्य के प्रमुख
पात्रों युधिष्ठिर, भीम,  अर्जुन, नकुल और सहदेव द्वारा वनवास में उठाये
गये दुःखों के उदाहरण द्वारा इस तथ्य को रेखांकित किया है कि वीर और
विद्वान व्यक्तियों को साधारण  पर  भाग्यशाली धनी व्यक्तियों की तुलना
में अधिकतर कष्टकर जीवनयापन करना पडता है | अतः केवल  भाग्यवान
संतति की ही  कामना  की गयी है | )

Bhaagyavantam prasooyethaa  maa shooram  maa cha panditam.
Soorashcha krutavidyashcha  vane  seedanti Paandavaah.

Bhaagyavanta = lucky.    Prasooyethaa = give birth      Maa = no.
Shooram = a brave person,  a warrior,   Cha = and,      Panditam =
wise and learned person, a scholar.    Shoorashcha = shoorah +cha
Krutavidyaashcha =  Krutavidyaa +cha.     Krutavidyaa = learned
persons.     Vane = in the forests.      Seedanti = sink into distress.
suffer.     Pandavaah  =  Five sons of King Pandu, namely Yudhishthar,
Bheema, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva,  main characters of the famous
epic Mahabharata, who were banished to live in forests.

i.e.        People should beget lucky children rather than brave and
scholarly children, because such children have to suffer a lot in their
life, e.g. the five sons of king Pandu, who were brave and learned had
to suffer by wandering in forests after losing their kingdom.

(In this Subhashita the author has sarcastically highlighted the fact that,
 persons of ordinary intelligence but very lucky, enjoy a luxurious life.
whereas highly learned and very brave persons generally languish in
miseries and poverty.)
