खल्वाटो दिवसेश्वरस्य किरणैः संतापितो मस्तके
वाञ्छन्देशमनातपं विधिवशात्तालस्य मूलं गतः |
तत्रोच्चैर्महता फलेन पतता सशब्दं शिरः
प्रायो गच्छति यत्र भाग्यरहिस्तत्राSSपदां भाजनम् ||
अर्थ - एक खल्वाट (गंजा ) व्यक्ति सूर्य की तेज किरणों से अपना
सिर झुलस जाने के कारण एक गर्मी से रहित देश (स्थान ) की कामना
से भाग्यवश एक नारियल के वृक्ष के नीचे बैठ गया | उसी समय एक
बडा नारियल जोरदार सावाज करता हुए उसके सिर पर आ गिरा | प्रायः
यही देखा गया है कि भाग्यहीन व्यक्ति जहां कहीं भी जाता है वहीं पर
आपदाओं का पात्र बन जाता है |
( इस सुभाषित में हास्य रस का उपयोग कर यह् तथ्य प्रतिपादित
किया गया है कि मुसीबतें भाग्यहीन व्यक्ति का पीछा कभी नहीं छोडती
है | गोस्वामी तुलसीदास जी ने भी कहा है - "जा की जस भवितव्यता
तैसी मिले सहाय | आपुन आवै ताहि पहीं ताहि तहां ले जाय" ||

daytime i.e. the Sun. Kiranaih = rays. Santaapito = scorched..

Vaanchan + desham +anaatapam Vaanchan =wishing, desiring.
Desham= a country. Anaatapam = shady, free from the blaze of
the Sun. Vidhivashaattalasya = vidhivashaat+ taalasya..
Vidhivashaat = through the quirk of fate. Talasya= a coconut palm
tree's. Moolam = base. Gatah = gone out. Tratrocchairmahataa =
tatra+ucchaih +mahataa. Tatra - there. Ucchaih = high on the top
Mahataa = very big, mighty. Phalena = fruit (coconut shell).
Patataa - fell down. Sashabdam = with a loud sound. Shirah =
head. Praayo = mostly, perhaps. Gacchati = goes. Yatra =
where. Bhaaagyarahistatraapadaa = Bhaagyarahitah + tatra +
aapadaa. Bhaagyarahitah = unfortunate, miserable. Tatra = there.
Aapadaa = calamity, misfortune. Bhaajanam = receptacle of.
i.e. A bald headed person on being scorched by the rays of the
Sun, wishing to go to a cool place, through the quirk of fate sat below
a Coconut tree. There a large coconut shell dropped from the top of
the tree and hit his head with a loud sound. This implies that where
ever unfortunate persons go misfortune follows them.
(In this Subhashita a comic situation has been described to highlight
the irony of fate in the lives of people, over which they have no control.)
