आपत्सु च न मुह्यन्ति नराः पण्डितबुद्धयः |
मनोदेह समुत्थाभ्याम् दुःखाभ्यामर्पितं जगत् || -महाशुभाषितसंग्रह (4902)
अर्थ - जो व्यक्ति विद्वान् और बुद्धिमान् होते हैं वे आपदाओं से नहीं
घबराते हैं क्यों कि उनके मन और शरीर की सहनशक्ति अधिक और दृढ
होती है और उन्हें यह ज्ञान भी होता है कि यह सांसारिक जीवन दुःखों को
ही अर्पित है (सुख की तुलना में दुःख ही अधिक होते हैं ) |
Aapatsu cha na muhyanti naraah panditabhddhyah.
Manodeha samutthaabhyaam duhkhaabhyaamarpitam jagat.
Aapatsu = calamities, misfortune. Cha = and. Na = not.
Muhyanti = become bewildered. Naraah = persons. Panditbuddhayah=
Pandit + buddhayah. Pandit = learned person. Buddhayah =
intelligent and enlightened persons. Manodeha = mano +deha.
Mano = mind. Deha = body. Samutthabhyaam = persons who
have raised their instincts. Duhkhaabhyaamarpitam = duhkhaabhyaam+
arpitam. Duhkhaabhyaam = various kinds of distresses.
Arpitam = given to, dedicated to. . Jagat = this world, mankind.
i.e. Learned and wise persons do not get bewildered on facing
calamities or misfortune, because their level of their tolerance is very
high and they also know that in this world human life is mostly full of
miseries and struggle (rather than happiness) ,
