Today's Subhashita.

आपत्सु  मित्रं जानीयेद्रणे  शूरं रहः शुचि |
भार्या च विभवे क्षीणे दुर्भिक्षे च प्रियातिथि ||  (महासुभषित सं ग्रह (4903)

अर्थ -    एक सच्चे  मित्र  की पहचान विपत्ति के समय ही होती  है और एक
शूर वीर की रणभूमि  में होती  है | इसी तरह् शुचिता (स्वच्छ रहना) अकेले
रहने पर, और स्त्री की परीक्षा धन संपत्ति नष्ट या कम  होने पर , तथा
अतिथिसत्कार मे सदैव तत्पर रहने वाले  व्यक्ति की परीक्षा दुर्भिक्ष के  समय
ही होती है |

i.e.    Aapatsu mitram jaaneeyedrane shooram rahh shuchi .
Bhaaryaa cha vibhave ksheene durbhikshe cha priyatithi.

Aapatsu =  calamities, emergency.   Mitram = friend.    Jaaneyedrane=
jaaneyet + raney.    Jananeyet =  is known, tested    Rane = in a battle.
Shooram = brave .    Rahh =  alone, solitude.        Shuchi = cleanness.
Bhaaryaa = wife.   Cha = and.   Vibhave =  wealth.   Ksheene = lost,
diminished .      Durbhikshe = during a famine.    Priyatithih = fond
of guests.

i.e.     The test of a real friend is during a calamity or an emergency, and
that of a brave person or a warrior during a battle .  Similarly the test of
cleanliness is when one is along, and that of a wife when wealth is lost
or diminished.  The test of a person fond of  entertaining guests is during
a famine.
