गणिका गणको समानधर्मो निज पञ्चाSङ्गनिदर्शकावुभौ |
जनमानसमोहकारिणौ तौ विधिना वित्तहरौ विनिर्मितौ ||

अर्थ - एक वेश्या तथा एक ज्योतिषी दोनों ही के व्यवहार में
समानता होती है | दोनों ही अपने पांचों अंगों का प्रदर्शन करते हैं
और उसके द्वारा जनसाधारण को मोहित करते हैं | सचमुच
विधाता (सृष्टिकर्ता ) ने दोनों का निर्माण iइस प्रकार लोगों का
धन हरण करने के लिये ही किया है |
(ज्योतिषी अपने भविष्यकथन के लिये जिस पुस्तक का उपयोग
करते है उसे 'पञ्चाङ्ग'' कहते है क्यों कि उसमें समय के पांच
विभागों तिथि, वार, नक्षत्र, योग तथा करण के माध्यम से ग्रहों
की स्थिति के आधार पर भविष्यकथन किया जाता है | एक वेश्या
भी अपने शरीर के पांच अंगों तथा सौन्दर्य से लोगों को मोहित
कर अपना जीवन यापन करती है | इसी समानता को उपर्युक्त
सुभाषित में व्यक्त किया गया है |)

Janamanasamohakaarinau tau vidhinaa vittaharau vinirmitau.
Ganikaa = a prostitute., a courtesan. Ganako = an astrologer.
Samaandharmo = having the same qualities. Nija = one's own.
Panchaanganidarshakaavubhau = Panch +anga+nidarshaka =ubhau.
Panch = five. Anga =limbs., attributes.. Nidarshak = proclaiming,
seeing into. Ubahu = both of them. Janamaanasmohakaarinau
Janamaanas +mohakaarinau. Janmaanas = general public..
Mohakaarinau = befoolers. Tau = they. Vidhinaa = by the destiny.
Vittaharau = taking away money, Vinirmitay = created ,
i.e. There is similarity in the professions of a prostitute and an
Astrologer, as both of them are dependent on their five attributes/
limbs. With their help they enchant and befool the general public.
It appears that the destiny has created them just to take away the
wealth of others.
The astrologers depend on an Almanac ('Panchang in Sanskrit meaning
the five components for measuring the Time i.e. lunar position, name of the
day, the celestial position of stars etc.) Similarly a prostitute or a courtesan
depends on her five main limbs and her beauty to further her profession.
This similarity has been used in a figurative way in the above Subhashita)
