अहोरात्रमये  लोके जरारूपेण  संचरन्   |

मृत्युर्ग्रसति  भूतानि पवनं पन्नगो यथा || - महासुभषितसंग्रह (४१८५)

अर्थ -     दिन और  रात के समयचक्र वाले इस संसार में  वृद्धावस्था 

के रूप में घूमने वाली मृत्यु सभी प्राणियों को उसी प्रकार अपना ग्रास 

बना लेती (नष्ट कर देती है ) जिस तरह  तेज हवा के झोंकों से घास के 

तिनके उड कर नष्ट हो जाते हैं |

Ahoraatramayo loke Jaraaroopena samcharan.

Mrutyurgrasati bhootaani pavanam pannago  yathaa.

Ahoratramayo=  having the cycle of day and night.     Loke = 

in this world.    Jaraa+roopena.     Jaraa = old age, aging.

Roopena = in the form of.   Samcharan = moving around.

mrutyurgrasati = mrutyuh + grasati.   Mrutyuh + death.

Grasati - devours,    Bhootaani =  living beings.   Pavanam =

wind.     Pannago = a specie of grass (also a snake).  Yathaa =

for instance.

i.e.     In this World  having the time cycle of day and night 

following each other, death in  the form of ageing (old age)

devours all living beings in the same manner as gusty wind

blows away and destroys blades of grass.
