मन्ये मोहपिशाचस्य स्थानं यौवनदुर्वनम् |
यत्र कामादयः क्रूरा यातुधानाः सहस्रशः || - सुभाषितरत्नाकर
अर्थ - मेरा यह मानना है कि मोह रूपी पिशाच का स्थान (निवास)
यौवन (जवानी) रूपी दुर्गम वन में होता है जहां काम वासना आदि अन्य
हिंसक और निर्दय दैत्य हजारों की संख्या में रहते हैं |
(इस सुभाषित में यौवनावस्था मे होने वाले मोह को एक पिशाच की उपमा
दे कर तथा जवानी को एक दुर्गंम वन की उपमा दे कर कामुकता, क्रोध
आदि दुर्गुणों को निर्दयी दैत्यों की उपमा दे कर इन से बचने के लिये प्रेरित
किया गया है | )
Manye moha-pishaasy sthaanam yauvana-durvanam.
Yatra kaamaadayah krooraa yaatudhaanaah sahasrashah,
Manye = I think. Moha = infatuation, confusion.
Pishaachasya = of a demon's , an imp's. . Sthaanam = venue,
Yauvan = youth. Durvanam = a dense inaccessible forerst.
Yatra = where. Kaamaadayah = kaam +aadayah . Kaam =
sexual desire. Aadayah = and others. Krooraa = cruel.
Yaatudhaaanaah = demons, evil spirits. Sahasrashah =
by the thousands.
i.e. In my view infatuation and confusion like a demon
resides in the minds of young persons akin to an inaccessible
dense forest, where sexual desire and many other vices like
thousands of cruel demons also reside.
(In rhis Subhashita through the similes of demons and a dense
forest for the impressionable mindset of youth, the author has
warned the youth from indulging in various vices.)
