मूर्खोSपि मूर्खं दृष्ट्वा च चन्दनादतिशीतलः |
यदि पश्यति विद्वांसं मन्यते पितृघातकंम् || - सुभाषितरत्नाकर
अर्थ - एक मूर्ख व्यक्ति यदि अपने ही समान किसी अन्य मूर्ख
व्यक्ति को देखता हैं तो उसे चन्दन का लेप करने के समान शीतलता
का अनुभव होता है परन्तु यदि उस का सामना किसी विद्वान् व्यक्ति
से होता है तो वह ऐसा अनुभव (या व्यवहार )करता है कि मानो वह् किसी
ऐसे नीच व्यक्ति से मिल रहा
है जिसने अपने पिता का वध किया हो |
Moorkhopi moorkham drushtvaa cha chandanaadatisheetalah.
Yadi pashyati vidvaamsam manyate pitryghaatakam.
Moorkhopi = Moorkho + api. Moorkho = foolish persons.
Api = even , too. Drushtvaa = on seeing. Cha = and.
Chandanaadatisheetalah = chandanaat +ati + sheetalah.
Chandanaat = like the sandal wood. Ati = very. Sheetalah =
cool, soothing. Yadi = if. Pashyati = sees. Vidvaansam =
Scholars, learned persons. Manyate = thinks. Pitrughatakam =
a person who has committed the sin of patricide..
i.e. When a foolish person meets another foolish person, he
feels coolness like having sandalwood paste over his body.
However, when he meets a scholar or a learned person, he thinks
as if he is meeting with a lowly person who has committed the
sin of patricide.
