अहो दुःख महोदुःख महोदुःखं दरिद्रता |
तत्रापि पुत्रभार्याणां बाहुल्यमतिदुःखदं || - महासुभषितसंग्रह (४१४४)
अर्थ - अहो ! कई कारणों से लोग दुःख का अनुभव करते है पर उस
से भी अधिक दुःख व्यक्तियों को गरीबी के कारण होता है | उस पर
भी यदि उस गरीब व्यक्ति के परिवार में अनेक पुत्र और पुत्रवधुऐं हों
तो यह स्थिति अत्यन्त दुःख देने वाली होती है |
(इस सुभाषित में परिवार नियोजन का संदेश छिपा हुआ है | )
Aho duhkha mahoduhkha mahoduhkham daridrataa.
Tatraapi putrabhaaryaanaam baahulyamatiduhkhadam.
Aho = Oh ! Duhkha = pain, grief, misery, suffering, distress.
Mahoduhkha = greater misery. Daridrataa = poverty.penury.
Tatraaapi = tatra+api. Tatra = there. Api = even.
Putrabhaaryaanaam = putra +bhaaryaanaam. Putra = son(s)
Bhaaryaanaam = wives. Baahulyamatiduhkhadam = baahulyam +
ati +duhkhadam. Baahulya = abundance, multitude. Ati = very,
too much. Duhkhadam = painful.
i.e. There are many reasons for which people have to suffer, but
but the suffering due to poverty is greater than all other causes.
However. if such a poor person has many sons and daughters-in-law
in his family then such a situation is the most miserable and painful.
