अहो प्रकृतिसादृश्यं श्लेष्मणो दुर्जनस्य च |
मधुरैः कोपमायाति कटुकैरुपशाम्यति || - महासुभषितसंग्रह (४१५९)
अर्थ - अहो ! कफ और एक दुष्ट व्यक्ति , इन दोनों की प्रकृति
में कितनी समानता है | दोनों मधुरता (मीठी वस्तुओ या अच्छे व्यवहार )
से कुपित हो जाते हैं परन्तु यदि उनसे कटु व्यवहार (कडुवी औषधि या दुष्ट
व्यक्ति से उसी के समान आचरण ) किया जाय तो वे शान्त हो जाते हैं |
Aho prakritisaadrushyam shlesmano durjanasya cha,
Madhuraih kopamaayaati katukairupashaamyati.
Aho = Oh ! Prakrutisaadrushyam = Prakruti +saadrushyam.
Prakruti = nature. Saadrushyam = similarity. Shleshmano =
phlegm, mucus. Durjanasya = a wicked person"s Cha = and.
Madhuraih = sweet things, courteous behaviour. Kopamaayaati =
Kopam + aayaati. Kopam = anger. Aayaati = arrives, becomes.
Katukairupashaamyati = katukaih + upashaamyati. Katukaih =
bitter, bad. Upashaamyati = ceases, becomes subdued or calm.
i.e. Oh ! What a similarity is there in the nature of phlegm
(cough) and a wicked person . Both get aggravated by sweetness
( sweet things and courteous behaviour) and are subdued by
bitterness ( bitter medicines and befitting rude behaviour) .
