Today's Subhashita.

आत्मज्ञः शौचवान्दान्तस्तपस्वी विजितेन्द्रियः |
धर्मकृद्वेदविद्यावित्सात्विको     देवयोनितां        || -  महासुभषितसंग्रह (4551)

अर्थ -      आत्मज्ञानी, शौचवान (स्वच्छ रहनसहन ) उदार विचारों  वाला और
संयमी , तपस्वी   काम ,क्रोध, लोभ मोह आदि इन्द्रियजनित दोषों को जिसने
अपने वश में कर लिया हो ,  धार्मिक प्रवृत्ति वाला .  वेदविद्या में निपुण  तथा
सात्विक विचारों  वाला व्यक्ति  देवताओं  के समान महान् और पूजनीय  है  |

Aatmagyah shauchavaandaantastapasvee vijitendriyah.
Dharmakrudvedavidyaavitsaatviko   devayonitaam.

Aatmagyah = knowing one's self.   Shauchvaandantastapasvee =
shauchvaan + daanth + tapasvee.    Shauchvaan = a person who
maintains cleanliness.    Daanth = liberal and restraint.   Tapasvee =
ascetic,  a person who practises austerity.   Vijitendriyah = a person
who has control over his sensory organs and passion.
Dharmakrudvedavidyaavitsaatviko = dharmakruta +vedavidyaavit =
saatviko.    Dharmakrut = virtuous.     Vedavidyaavit =  versed in
Vedic knowledge.    Saatviko = pure and honest.    Devayonitaam =
great and honourable like Gods.

i.e.     A person who is well aware of his own self,  practises cleanliness,
liberal and restraint,  ascetic in nature, has full control over his sensory
organs and passion,  is virtuous and well versed in Vedic knowledge,
and also pure and honest, is great and honourable  just like a demi -god.
