Today's Subhashita.

आत्मप्रतीतिर्दृढता  विरक्तिरिति त्रयं स्वात्मनि यो दधाति  |
नेता स एवास्ति समस्त   शिष्ट-गुणाश्रयत्वान्निखिलप्रजानां  ||
                                                      -महासुभषितसंग्रह (4591)
अर्थ -       अपने कर्तृत्व पर विश्वास , दृढता तथा विरक्ति  (काम,
क्रोध, लोभ, मोह आदि दुर्गुणों  से मुक्त)  ये   तीन गुण जिस किसी
भी व्यक्ति में होते  है तथा  वह  विनम्र और अन्य गुणों से भी युक्त 
 हो  तो  निश्चय ही ऐसा  व्यक्ति  ही समस्त  प्रजा का सही नेतृत्व
करने में सक्षम होता है |

( एक नेता या शासक में जो गुण अवश्य होने चाहिये उन का वर्णन
इस  सुभाषित में किया गया है |  यह एक विडम्बना ही  है  कि आज
कल के नेताओं  में इन गुणों  का  अभाव  ही दिखाई  देता है | )

Aatmaprateetirdrudhataa  viraktiriti  tryam svaatmani yo dadhaati.
Neta sa evaasti samast shisht-gunaashrayatvaannikhilaprajaanaam.

Aatmaprateetirdudhataa = Aatmaprateetih + drudhataa.
Aatmaprateetih = self -confidence     Drudhataa = firmness..
Viraktiriti = virakti + Virakti =  antipathy ( disinclined towards
 passion, anger,  greed and  attachment,.  Iti = these.   Tryam = three.  
Svaatmani = in one's own mind/   Yo = whosoever.      Dadhaati =
possesses.     Neta = a leader.      Sa = he.    Evasti= eva +asti /  
Eva = really.    Asti =  is.     Samast = all.  Shist+gunaashrayatvaan
+nikhila+prajaanaam.      Shista = polite.    Gunaashrayatvaan=
very virtuous .   Nikhil = entire.   Prajaanaam = citizens of a country.

i.e.       A person who possesses these  three sterling qualities, namely
self-confidence, firmness, and  antipathy (disinclined towards passion,
anger, greed and attachment) and is also  polite and virtuous, is a true
Leader of the citizens of a Country.

(This Subhashita outlines the qualities which are the pre-requisites for
a true leader of a country.  Unfortunately, there qualities are lacking in
the politicians now a days .)
