Today's Subhashita.

आरोग्यं  विद्वतां  सज्जनमैत्री  महाकुले  जन्म  |

स्वाSSधीनता  च पुंसां  महदैश्वर्यं विनाSप्यर्थम्  || -सुभाषितरत्नाकर

अर्थ -     यदि कोई  व्यक्ति  अच्छे स्वास्थ्य  वाला और विद्वान हो ,
सज्जन व्यक्ति उसके मित्र हों, किसी महान कुल में उसने जन्म
लिया हो तथा किसी के भी ऊपर आश्रित न हो कर स्वतन्त्र हो, तो
ऐसा व्यक्ति धनवान न होते हुए भी  महान ऐश्वर्यवान  होता है  |

(उपर्युक्त  श्लोक  'संतोषप्रशंसा'  शीर्षक  के अन्तर्गत संग्रहीत  है |
इस का तात्पर्य  यह है कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति विद्वत्ता , कुलीनता ,
सत्संग के  साथ साथ  संतोषी स्वभाव  वाला  भी हो तो वह् निर्धन
होते  हुए  भी  महान ऐश्वर्य वाला होता है )
  

Aarogyam vidvataam  sajjanamaitree mahakule janma.

Svaadheenataa  cha pumsaam  mahadaishvaryam vinaapyartham.

Aarogya =  good health.   Vidvataam = well educated. learned.

Sajjanmaitree = friendship with noble and righteous persons.

Mahakle = an illustrious family.    Janma = birth.   Svaadheenataa=

sva =aadheenata .    Sva = self.     Aadheenata = dependence.

Cha = and.     Pumsaam = people,    Mahadaishvaryam = great

prosperity.   Vinaapyartham = vina +api+artham.   Vina = without/

Api = even    Artham = wealth. 

i.e.      If a person is healthy, learned, has noble persons as his friends,

belongs to a noble and illustrious family, is not dependent on any body,

such a person is  very prosperous in the real sense, even if he may not 

be wealthy monetarily..

(This Subhashita is classified under the head ' Santosh : i.e. contentedness.
The underlying idea is that a person may not be rich monetarily, but if he is
a noble and righteous person with good health he is prosperous in the real
sense.)
