Today's Subhashita.

आत्मानं सर्वथा रक्षेद्राज्ञा रक्षेच्च मेदिनी |
आत्ममूलमिदं सर्वं आहुर्हि  विदुषो जनाः  || - महासुभषितसंग्रह (4636 )

अर्थ -     हमें हर प्रकार  से स्वयं अपनी रक्षा करनी चाहिये तथा  एक
राजा को भी  इसी प्रकार isपृथ्वीं (अपने देश) की रक्षा करनी  चाहिये,
क्यों कि विद्वानों  का भी यही कहना है कि सचमुच ही सभी  प्राणी
अपनी रक्षा के  प्रति  सदैव सजग होते  हैं |
 
Aatmaanam sarvathaa rakshedraagyaa raksheccha medinee.
Aatmamoolamidam sarvam aahurhi vidusho janaah.

Aatmaanam =  thyself.      Sarvathaa = by all means.
Rakshedraagyaa =  rakshet+ raagyaa.    Rakshet = protect.
Raagyaa =  the King.    Raksheccha = rakshet +cha.
Cha = and.    Medinee = the Earth,   Aatmamoolamidam -
Aatmamoolam + idam.     Aatmamoolam = self existent.
Idam = this.     Sarvam = completely.   Aahurhi = aahuh +
hi.     Aahuh =proclaim.    Hi = surely.    Vidusho = learned.
Janaah = persons.

i.e.     One should by all means protect himself and likewise the
King should protect the Earth (his country), because learned
persons have also proclaimed that  every living being is by nature
always alert for his protection.
