Today's Subhashita.

दिव्यं आम्ररसं पीत्वा गर्वं नायाति कोकिलः |
पीत्वा  कर्दम  पानीयं   भेको  टरटरायते      ||

अर्थ -    अमृत तुल्य आम के रस को पी कर भी एक कोयल
गर्व नहीं करती है परन्तु गन्दगी और कीचड से भरे जल को
पी कर भी एक मेंढक  लगातार  टरटराता रहता है |

(इस सुभाषित का तात्पर्य यह्  है कि ओछे और नीच प्रकृति
के लोग जरा सी भी उपलब्धि से इतरा जाते हैं जब कि सज्जन
व्यक्ति अपनी बडी से बडी  उपलब्धियों पर भी  गर्व नहीं करते
है| इसी संदर्भ में एक कहावत भी है कि'थोथा  चना  बाजे घना' )

Divyam aamrarasam peetvaa garvam naayaati kokilah.
Peetvaa kardam paaneeyam bheko tarataraayate.

Divyam = wonderful,  divine.    Aamrarasam = juice of
Mango fruit..    Peetvaa = by drinking.    Garvam = pride.
Naayaati = na + aayati/   Na = not.    Aayati =  becomes.
Kokilah = Indian cuckoo bird  (known for the sweet sound
produced by it)     Kardam = covered with dirt and mud.
Paaaneyam = water.    Bheko = a frog.    Tarataraayate =
croaks (sound made by a frog is also called as 'ribbit' )

i.e.         Even by drinking mango juice akin to celestial
nectar (called Amruta) the Indian cuckoo bird does not
show pride and arrogance, whereas  a frog  by drinking
the  muddy water of a pond croaks. (produces the offensive
sound of tar tar tar continuously.)

(The underlying idea behind this Subhashita is that lowly
and mean persons  express their  pride   upon their very
ordinary achievements whereas noble persons do not do
so evne on their great achievements.)
