Today's Subhashita.

आश्रयेणैव  शोभन्ते  पण्डिता  वनिता  लताः |
बहुमूल्यं  हि  माणिक्यं जटितं  हेम्नि  राजते || -  महासुभषितसंग्रह (५४८५)

भावार्थ -     विद्वान् व्यक्तियों, स्त्रियों तथा पुष्प लताओं  की शोभा
तभी होती है जब उन्हें उचित संरक्षण या आश्रय प्राप्त होता है |
उदाहरणार्थ  एक मूल्यवान तथा चमकीला  माणिक्य भी तभी सुशोभित
होता है जब कि उसे किसी स्वर्ण आभूषण मे  जड दिया जाता है |

Ashryaenaiva shobhante panditaa vanitaa lataah.
Bahumoolyam hi  maanikyam jatitam hemni raajate.

Ashryaenaiva = aashryena + ive.    Ashrayena =  by getting
protection or shelter.    iva =really.     Shobhante = look beautiful
and embellished.    Panditaa learned persons.    Vanitaa = women.
Lataah =  creeping plants or shrubs  which need the support
of a tree or other object to climb up and grow.     Bahumoolyam =
precious, expensive.    Hi = surely.   Maanikyam = a ruby.
Jatitam = studded in.    Hemni = gold.    Raajate = shines,glitters.

i.e.            Learned persons, beautiful women and creeper plants get
embellished   only when they get  proper patronage,support  and
protection . For example,a ruby may be very precious and bright, but
its full potential is achieved when it is studded in a gold ornament..
