सेवकः स्वामिनं द्वेष्टि कृपणं परुषाक्षरम् |
आत्मानं किं स न द्वेष्टि सेव्यासेव्यं न वेत्ति यः || - संस्कृत सुभाषितानि
भावार्थ - यदि किसी सेवक का स्वामी कंजूस तथा कटुभाषी हो
तो वह् सेवक अपने स्वामी से घृणा करने लगता है | ऐसी स्थिति
में वह स्वयं अपने से घृणा क्यों नहीं करता है कि वह् यह निर्णय
नहीं कर पा रहा है कि ऐसे स्वामी की सेवा करना क्यों न छोड दे ?
(अधिकतर लोगों में यह प्रवृत्ति होती है कि वे अपनी विपरीत स्थिति
लिये के लिये दूसरों को दोषी ठहराते है जब् कि वे भी स्वयं उस स्थिति
के लिये समान रूप से दोषी होते हैं | उपर्युक्त सुभाषित इसी परिस्थिति
का एक उदाहरण है | )
Sevakah svaaminam dveshti krupanam parushaaksharam.
Aatmaanam ki sa na dveshti sevyaa sevyam na vetti sah,
Sevakah = a servant. Svaaminam = the employer, master .
Dveshti = hates. Krupanam = a miser. Parushaaksharam =
using harsh words. Aatmaanam = himself. Kim = why.
Sa = he Na = not. Sevyaa = service. Sevyam = serve.
Vetti = wish to know, decides.
i.e. If the master of a servant is a miser as also foul mouthed ,
the servant tends to hate him. Under such circumstance why
does he not hate himself for his inability to decide quitting his
service ?
(Generally people tend to blame extraneous circumstances for
their woes, but at times they themselves are responsible for
them. The above Subhashita deals with such a situation.)
