Today's Subhashita.

यथा खनन खनित्रेण नरो वार्यधिगच्छति  |

तथा  गुरुगतं  विद्यां शुश्रूषुरधिगच्छति     ||  - संस्कृत सुभाषितानि 

भावार्थ -      जिस तरह (धैर्य पूर्वक)  जमीन को बेलचे /कुदाल

से गहराई तक खोदने पर लोग भूमिगत जल का स्रोत पा जाते  

हैं, उसी  प्रकार  किसी  योग्य गुरु से भी लगन और श्रद्धा पूर्वक 

उनकी सेवा कर  के ही विद्या  प्राप्त हो सकती है | 

(इस सुभाषित में किसी गुरु से विद्या प्राप्ति की प्रक्रिया की तुलना 

एक कुवां खोदने से की गयी है जो कि मनुष्य के धैर्य, परिश्रम  तथा

सही स्थान के चयन  करने पर ही जल उपलब्ध करता है | )

Yathaa khanan khanitrena  naro vaaryaadhigacchati.   

Tathaa gurugatam viddyaam shushrushuradhigacchati.

Yathaa = for instance.    Khanana = digging.   Khanitrena=

by a spade.      Naro =   people.         Vaaryadhigacchati = 

vaari  + adhigacchati.    VaaRi = water.    Adhigacchati =

goes near, obtains.   Tathaa = so also, thus.   Gurugatam =

belonging to a preceptor 0r a teacher.  Vidyaam  = knowledge.

Shushrushuradhigacchati = shushrooshuh +adhigaccgati.

Shushrooshuh = by serving with obedience and reverence.

i.e.     Just as people are able to reach a source of underground 

water by digging the ground with digging instruments ( with
patience and hard labour), so also one can acquire knowledge

from a renowned Guru  only by serving him with devotion and 

obedience.

(The process of acquiring knowledge from a Guru has been 

compared to the digging of a well, which requires patience,

hard work and proper selection of the site for the well being

successful . )
