Today's Subhashita.

न अन्नोदकसमं दानं न तिथिद्वादशीसमा |
न गायत्त्र्याः  परो  मन्त्रो  न  मातुः परदैवतम् ||  - संस्कृत सुभाषितानि

भावार्थ -     भूखे और प्यासे लोगों को अन्न और जल के दान के  समान
(बढ कर ) अन्य कोई दान नहीं है तथा द्वादशी के समान (पुण्यदायी )
कोई अन्य तिथि नहीं  है | इसी प्रकार गायत्री मन्त्र  के समान  न  कोई
और मन्त्र है तथा अपनी माता के समान  न कोई  अन्य देवता हैं |

Na  annodaka-samam daanam na tithi-dvaadashee-samaa.
Na gaayatryaah  paro  mantro na maatuh paradaivatam.

Na = not    Annodakasamam = anna + udak+ samam.    Anna =
food.    Udak = water.    Samam = equal.    Daanam = donation,
charity.   Tithi = a day of the lunar month.   Dvaadashi = 12th
day of the lunar month    Sama = equal to.   Gaayatryaa = the
name of a Vedic hymn.     Maatuh = mother.   Paradaivatam=
highest deity.

i.e.   There is no other charitable deed is equal to (bigger  than)
providing foodand water to the needy people and no auspicious
day equal to the 12th day of the lunar month.       Likewise,  no
'Mantra' is equal to  the 'Gayatri Mantra' ,and no deity is equal in
status to  one's own mother.
