Today's Subhashita.

स्वभावं  न  जहात्येव साधुरापदतोSपि  सन्  |
कर्पूरः  पावकस्पृस्तिः   सौरभं  लभतेतराम्      || - संस्कृत सुभाषितानि

भावार्थ -     सज्जन व्यक्ति अपना नैसर्गिक अच्छा स्वभाव किसी बडी
आपदा के  उपस्थित  होने  पर  भी उसी  प्रकार नहीं त्यागते  जैसा  कि
कपूर आग के संपर्क में आ कर जल जाने  पर और  भी अधिक सुगन्ध
देने लगता है  |

Svabhaavam na jahaatyeva  saadhuraapadatopi san.
Karpoorah paavakasprushth saurabham labhatetaraam.

Svabhaavam = inherent nature.   Na = not.   Jahaatyeva = jahaati+
eva.     Jahaatri = lose.   aadhuraapadratopi = saadhuh+ aapadato +
api,     Sadhu = noble persons.    Apadato =  a disaster.. calamity.
Api = even.     San = facing, being in.       Karpoorah = camphor.
Pavakassprastih  = paavakah + sprustih .   Pavakah = the fire.
Sprustih = contact.   Saurabham = fragrance, perfume.  Labhate =
get.     Taraam = word added to adverbs to intensify their meaning.

i.e.     Noble persons do not shed their inherent good nature even
while facing a calamity just like the Camphor, which on coming into
contact with fire and while burning  emits even more fragrance.
