Today's Subhashita.

यावत्  भ्रियते  जठरं तावत् सत्वं हि देहिनाम्  |
अधिकं  योSभिमन्येत  स  स्तेनो दण्डमर्हति    ||- संस्कृत सुभाषितानि
                                                                           (मनुस्मृति )
भावार्थ -    जब तक सभी प्राणियों का उदर (पेट ) आहार गृहण करने की  
क्षमता रखता है तभी तक वे जीवित रहते हैं |  अतः जो  भी  अपने उदर
की क्षमता से अधिक पाने की इच्छा रखता है  वह दूसरों के हक को छीनने
वाले एक चोर के समान  सजा दिये जाने के योग्य है |

(इस सुभाषित में लोगों की अपनी आवश्यकता से अधिक संग्रह करने की
प्रवृत्ति की निन्दा की गयी है और जो लोग ऐसा करते हैं वे दूसरे प्राणियों
के  अधिकारों का हनन करते हैं और एक चोर के समान सजा पाने के  पात्र
हैं ऐसा  प्रतिपादित किया  है |)

Yaavat bhriyate jatharam taavat satvam hi dehinnaam.
Adhikam yobhimanyeta sa steno dandamarhati.

Yaavat = until.       Bhriyate =  supports.    Jatharam = stmach.
Taavat = so long.    Satvam =  alive, living.           Hi = surely
Dehinaam = living beings.    Adhikam = more,   Yobhimanyeta=
Yo+ abhimanyeta.      Yo = whosever.      Abhimanyeta = desires.
Sa = he.    Steno = a thief.    Dandamarhati = dandam +arhati.
Dandam = punishment.    Arhati =  deserves.

i.e.    All living beings remain alive until such time their stomach
sustains them.  So, if they crave for more than their requirements
they deserve to be punished as a thief.

(This Subhashita condemns the tendency among people to amass
wealth beyond their requirements and thereby depriving others
of their requirements and suggests that such persons deserve
to be punished as a thief.)
