Today's Subhashita.

उपाध्यायात्  दश आचार्यः आचार्याणां शतं पिता  |
सहस्रं  तु  पित्रन्  माता  गौरवेण अतिरिच्यते   || - संस्कृत सुभाषितानि

भावार्थ -       शिक्षा और ज्ञान प्रदान करने में  दस सामान्य शिक्षकों से  एकi
आचार्य दस गुणा श्रेष्ठ  होता है और एक सौ  आचार्यों से भी  श्रेष्ठ एक पिता
होता है |  परन्तु  एक माता  श्रेष्ठता  और सम्मान  मे पिता से भी एक हजार 
गुणा श्रेष्ठ होती  है  |

(इस सुभाषित के माध्यम से  समस्त प्राणिमात्र में जन्मदात्री  माता  द्वारा
अपनी संतान को शिक्षित करने और पालने पोसने मे किये गये  योगदान को
अन्य व्यक्तियों के योगदान से हजारों गुणा बता कर उसके महत्त्व को बहुत
ही प्रभावी रूप  से वर्णित  किया है क्यों कि  मानव के अतिरिक्त अन्य प्राणियों
में माता ही मुख्य रूप से संतान को पालती  और  शिक्षित  करती  है  )

Upaadhyaat dash aachaaryah aachaaryaanaam  shatam pita.
Sahasram tu pitrun maataa gauravena  atirichyate.

Upaadhyaayaat = teachers.    Dasha = 10     Aacharyah = preceptor,
a teacher of highest order ( like a Professor),   Shatam = one hundred/
Pitaa= father.    Sahasram = One thousand.    Pitrun = father.
Maataa = mother.    Gauravena = with respectability , dignity.
Atirichyate = excels, predominates.

i.e.       In respect of training and providing education a professor' is
ten times superior than a primary level teacher, and the father is one
hundred times superior than the Professor, But the mother one thousand
times more superior and respectable than the father.

(Through this Subhashita the important role of a mother in upbringing
the child and in educating him, has been highlighted by terming it
thousand times better than other means.  This is true particularly in
the case of other living beings, where the mother is mainly responsible
for upbringing and training the offspring ).
