उपकार शतेनापि गृह्यते केन दुर्जनः |
साधुः समानमात्रेण भवत्येवात्मविक्रमी || - महासुभषितसंग्रह
भावार्थ - ऐसा क्यों होता है कि एक दुष्ट व्यक्ति के प्रति
एक सौ उपकार करने पर भी वह उनसे कोई लाभ प्राप्त नहीं
कर पाता है ,जब कि एक सज्जन व्यक्ति उसी मात्रा में ही
उपकार किये जाने पर एक महान शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति बन
जाता है
(इस सुभाषित मे जो समस्या व्यक्त की गयी है उसका उत्तर
दिनांक १९ सितम्बर २०१६ को प्रकाशित सुभाषित - "उपकार
परः ........शत्रु सः " में दिया गया है अर्थात दुष्ट व्यक्ति उनके
प्रति उपकार करने वाले व्यक्ति को शत्रुवत् समझते हैं तथा
दी गयी सहायता का लाभ नहीं उठाते हैं | )
Upakaara shatenaapi gruhyate kena durjanah.
Sadhuh samaanamaatrena bhavatyevaatmavikramee.
Upakaara = helping and obliging others. Shatenaapi=
shatena+ api. Ahatena = by one hundred. Api = even.
Gruhyate = grasp. Kena = how, why. Durjanah =
a wicked and mean person. Saadhuh = a noble person.
Samaanamaatrena = of the same measure or si e.
Bhavatyevaatmavikramee = bhavati + eva+aatmavikramee.
Bhavati = becomes. Eva = already, really. Aatmavikramee=
a mighty and powerful person.
i.e. Why is it that a wicked person even by being helped
a hundred times is not able to grasp such help and benefit
by it, whereas a noble person helped by equal measures
becomes a powerful person.
(The answer to the query raised in this Subhashita is in the
Subhashita posted by me on the 19th September,2016 i.e.
wicked people treat their well wishers as their enemy and
do not benefit from the help offered to them.)
