Today's Subhashita.

Upakaarishu yah sadhuh saadhutye tasye ko  gunah.
Apakaarishu yah saadhuh sa saadhuh sadbhiruchyate.

Upakaarishu = a benefactor, person helping others.voluntarily.
Yah =  whosioever.     Saadhuh = noble person.    Saadhutve=
being noble.    Tasya = his    Ko =  what.    Gunah = virtue.
Apakaarishu =  persons harmful to others, mischievious persons.
 Sa = he    Sadbhiruchyate = sat + abhiruuchyate.   Sat = true,
real.     Abhiruchyate = shines.

i.e.      A person who voluntarily helps others does so because
he is a noble person by nature.  But if a person, who by nature is
harmful to others, helps others like a noble person, he too shines
and is appreciated as a noble person.

  1. I think the meaning of this Subhashitam is different.

    If one does good to those who do good to him, of what merit is one's goodness?
    But, if one does good to even those who do not do good to him, then he is called a saint.
