परस्परं प्रशंसन्ति अहो रूपमहो अहो ध्वनिः || - महासुभषितसंग्रह
भावार्थ - ऊंटों के विवाह महोत्सव में गधे यदि गीत गा रहे हों तो
वे परस्पर एक दूसरे की प्रशंसा मे कहते है कि अहा ! क्या सुन्दरता है
और क्या मधुर गायन है |
(ऊंट कुरूपता का प्रतीक है और गधा कर्कश वाणी का प्रतीक है | जब
कभी दो अनमेल व्यक्तियों में सामञ्जस्य होता है तो व्यंग्यात्मक रूप
में इसी प्रकार उसे व्यक्त किया जाता है |)
Ushtraanaam cha vivaaheshu geetam gaayanti gardabhaah.
Parasparam prashamsanti aho roopamaho aho dhvanih.
Ushtraanaam = camels. Cha = and. Vivaaheshu = during
the marriage ceremony. Geetam = song. Gaayanti = singing.
Gardabhaah = donkeys. Parasparam = mutually, each other.
Prashamsanti = praise, compliment. Aho = Oh ! Roopamaho=
Roopa + maho. Roopa = beauty, Maho = great. Dhvanih =
voice, tone.
i.e. If donkeys are singing songs in the marriage ceremony of
camels , they compliment each other by saying " oh ! what a
beauty and Oh ! what a beautiful voice"
(In this Subhashita camels symbolise the ugliness and donkeys
symbolize the harsh tone.Whenever persons of diverse characteristics
are together, their association is described sarcastically in the above
manner.)
