Today's Subhashita. / आज का सुभाषित |

उपभोग कातराणां पुरुषाणामर्थसंचयपराणां  |
कन्यामणिरिव  सदने तिष्ठत्यर्थ: परस्यार्थे  || - महासुभषितसंग्रह

भावार्थ -         अपने  परिश्रम  द्वारा  संपत्ति अर्जित करने में
कुशल  परन्तु उसका उपभोग करने से डरने वाले व्यक्तियों की
संपत्ति उनके घर में उनकी एक मणि के समान मूल्यवान  और  
सुन्दर कन्या के समान रहती है, जो अन्ततः( विवाहित हो कर )
किसी  दूसरे के घर में चली जायेगी |

(इस सुभाषित में  एक कृपण (कंजूस ) व्यक्ति की सम्पत्ति की तुलना
उसकी पाल पोस कर बडी की गयी एकलौती कन्या से की गयी है जो
अन्ततः विवाहित हो कर किसी दूसरे के घर चली जायेगी |)

Upabhoga kaataraanaam purushaanaam-arthasanchayaparaanaam.
Kanyamaniriva sadane tishthatyarthah parasyaarthe.

Upabhoga = consuming, enjoying.    Kaataranaam = afraid of.
Purushaanaam = among people    Arthasanchayaparaanaam =
 experts in  acquiring  wealth.    Kanyamaniriva = kanya + mani +
iva.    Kanya = daughter.  Mani = a jewel,   Iva = like a.    Sadane =
a residence,   Tishthatyarthah = tishthati + arthah    Tishthati=
stays.   Arthah = wealth.  Parasyaarthe = for the benefit of others.

i.e.      Those persons who are expert in acquiring wealth but are
afraid of  enjoying it by conspicuous consumption, their wealth
is like their daughter, beautiful and precious like  a jewel, who will
ultimately  (on being married ) go to another household..

(Acquisition of wealth without consumption has been compared to
a daughter, who, after being brought up is ultimately married to
some one else.)
