करारिव शरीरस्य नेत्रयोरिव पक्ष्मणी |
अविचार्य प्रियं कुर्यात्तन्मित्रं मित्रमुच्यते || - महासुभषितसंग्रह(८७४४)
भावार्थ - शरीर के हाथों तथा आंखों की पलकों के समान जो व्यक्ति
बिना विचार किये हुए (किसी आपदा के समय) तुम्हारी सहायता करता हो
वही एक सच्चा मित्र कहलाता है |
(आंखों की पलकें तथा हाथ किसी आसन्न संकट की स्थिति में तुरन्त
रक्षात्मक स्थिति में आ जाते हैं | इसी उपमा को एक सच्चे मित्र के लिये
दे कर यही प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि वही सच्चा मित्र है जो संकट के
समय सहायक हो |)
Karaariva shareerasya netrayoriva pakshmanee.
Avichaarya priyam kuryaattanmitram mitramuchyate
Karaariva = karaah + iva. Karaah = hands. Iva = like the,
Shareerasya = of the body. Netrayoriva = Netrayoh + iva.
Netrayoh = eyes. Pakshmanee = eyelids. Avichaarya = without
deliberating. Priyam = dear to. Kuryaattanmitram = kuryaat +
tat +mitram. Kuryaat = do. Tat = that. Mitram = a friend.
Mitramuchyate = Mitram + uchyate. Uchyate = be regarded as.
i.e. A person who like the hands of the body and the eyelids
of the eyes, without any deliberation provides help and protection
is regarded to be one's real friend.
( Hands and eyelids react immediately for providing protection as
a reflex acrio in the human body. This has been used as a simile
for a real friend who unhesitatingly renders help at the time of any
calamity.)
