आज का सुभाषित / today's Subhashita

करोति स्वमुखे नैव बहुधान्यस्य खण्डनं  |
नमः पतनशीलाय  मुसलाय   खलाय  च  || - महासुभषितसंग्रह(८७९२)

भावार्थ -   जिस प्रकार बहुत सारे अनाजों के ऊपर बार बार गिर कर
एक मूसल अपने मुख से उनके छोटे छोटे टुकडे कर देता है ,वैसे ही
एक दुष्ट व्यक्ति भी अपने मुख से बार बार कटु वचन बोल कर लोगों
को प्रताडित करता है | ऐसे बार बार चोट पहुंचाने वाले मूसल तथा दुष्ट
व्यक्तियों को सादर नमन |

(अनाज से भूसा अलग करने की प्रक्रिया में उसे ओखली में रख  कर
मूसल से बार बार चोट की जाती है , जिस में अनाज के छोटे छोटे टुकडे
भी हो जाते हैं | दुष्ट व्यक्ति भी अपना काम संपन्न कराने के लिये कटु
भाषा का उपयोग करते हैं | अतः इस सुभाषित में दुष्ट व्यक्तियों की
तुलना एक मूसल से की गयी है | )

Karoti svamukhe naiva bahudhaanyasya khandanam.
Namah patanasheelaaya musalaaya khalaaya cha.

Karoti = does.    Svamukhe =one's own mouth.   Naiva = no,
hardly.   Bahu +dhaanyasya.    Bahu = many.   Dhaanyasya =
food grains.    Khandanam = breaking into small pieces.
Namah = salutations to thee !    Patansheelaaya = accustomed
to falling down.    Musalaaaya = to a wooden pestle (used for
for removing chaff from foodgrains like rice and wheat by
pounding it over the grain kept  in a pit)   Khalaaya =  to a
wicked person.   Cha = and.

i.e.     Just as a wooden pestle by repeatedly pounding over the
grain breaks it into small pieces, in the same manner a wicked
person by uttering expletives and harsh words from his mouth
for getting his work done, which hurts persons coming into his
contact. Salutations to both of them.

( In the process of removing chaff from the grain the wooden
pestle  is repeatedly pounded over the grain. Similarly wicked
people also resort to expletives and harsh words for getting their
work done. This has been used as a simile in this Subhashita.)
