आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

करोतु  करटः शब्दं  सर्वदा  प्राङ्गणे  वसन्  |
न शृणोति बुधः प्रीत्या शृणोति पिकभाषितं || - महासुभषितसंग्रह(८७९३)

भावार्थ -      कव्वे  सदैव घरों के प्राङ्गण (अहाते) में बैठ कर अप्रिय
ध्वनि  (कांव कांव) उत्पन्न करते हैं | बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति उस ध्वनि को
तो  अनसुना कर देते हैं परन्तु कोयल की मधुर कुहू कुहू ध्वनि को प्रेम
पूर्वक सुनते हैं |

(इस सुभाषित द्वारा यह्  संदेश दिया गया है कि बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति उनसे
कही गयी कटु  बातों पर ध्यान नहीं देते हैं परन्तु जो उनसे मधुर व्यवहार
करते हैं उनकी बातों को प्रेमपूर्वक सुनते हैं | किसी कवि ने भी कहा है कि -
"कागा काको लेत है कोयल काको देत | मीठे वचन सुनाय के जग अपनो
कर लेत" |

Karotu karatah shabdam sarvadaa praangane vasan.
Na shrunoti budhh preetyaa shrunoti pikabhaashitam.

Karotu =do.     Karatah = a crow.    Shabdam = noise.  
Sarvadaa=always, .   Praangane =  at the court-yard.
Na = not.    shrunoti = hear, listen.   Budhah = wise
men.   Preetyaa = gladly, affectionately.  Pika= Indian
cuckoo bird (Koel)   Bhaashitiam =  cuckoo's call.

i.e.     Crows roam around the court-yards of houses and
create noise (kao kao) . Wise persons ignore such sound
but listen gladly  the tweets  (kuhu Kuhu) of the cuckoo
bird (called Koel in India).

(The idea behind this Subhashita is that wise men ignore
the  harsh words spoken to them and do not react, whereas
listen to those attentively who speak to them politely. )
