आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita .a

कवयति पण्डितराजे कवयन्त्यन्येSपि  विद्वांसः  |
नृत्यति पिनाकपाणौ नृत्यन्तन्येSपि भूतबेतालाः || -महासुभषितसंग्रह(९०९४)

भावार्थ -    यद्यपि अन्य विद्वान भी काव्यों की रचना करते है  परन्तु
जिस  काव्य की रचना  पण्डितों में राजा  के समान श्रेष्ठतम  विद्वान करते
हैं वही काव्य सर्वोत्तम होता है |  सर्वश्रेष्ठ नृत्य तो स्वयं पिनाकपाणि शिव का
ही होता है , यद्यपि उनके गण भूत बेताल तथा अन्य व्यक्ति भी नृत्य करते हैं |

('पिनाक' भगवान शिव के धनुष का नाम है अतः उन्हें पिनाकपाणि भी कहते हैं |
काव्य रचना और नृत्य ये दोनों विधायें समाज में बहु प्रचलित हैं परन्तु इन
विधाओं मे श्रेष्ठतम रचनाकार वाल्मीकि, वेदव्यास जैसे महान कवियों और नृत्य
के प्रणेता स्वयं शिव को माना जाता है और उन्हें 'नटराज" भी कहा जाता है | इस
सुभाषित के द्वारा  यही तथ्य प्रतिपादित किया गया है )

Nrutyati Pinaakpaanau nrutyantyanyepi bhotabetaalaah .

Kavayati = composing poems.    Panditraaje = very famous and
renowned scholars.    Kavyantyanyepi=  kavayanti+anye+ api.
Anye = others.    Api = even.    Vidvaamsah = scholars.
Nrutyati = dances.   Pinaakapaanih =a name of Lord Shiva .
Nrutyantyanyepi = nrutyanti +anye + api    Bhootabwetaalaah=
ghosts and other supernatural creatures subordinate to Lord Shiva.

i.e.    Although poetry is composed by all and sundry learned
men, but the best poetry is composed by most learned and famous
poets. Likewise, ordinary men and even supernatural spirits and
ghosts subordinate to Lord Shiva indulge in dancing, but the real
cosmic dance is done by Lord Shiva himself.

(Pinaaka is the name of the bow of Lord Shiva. That is why he is
also called as Pinaakpani i.e. one who holds Pinaak;   Poetry and
dancing are the two very common forms of artistic expression.
The idea behind this Subhashita is that poetry by great sages and
learned scholars are the best and so also the cosmic dance of Lord
Shiva, who is also called as "Natraaj" i.e. King of Dancers.)
