आज का सुभाषित /Today's Subhashita.

कवयः किं न पश्यन्ति किं न भक्षन्ति वायसाः |
प्रमदा किं न कुर्वन्ति किं न जल्पन्ति मद्यपाः || =महासुभाषितसंग्रह(९०९०)

भावार्थ -    कविगण अपनी  अन्तर्दृष्टि से क्या नहीं देख  सकते हैं तथा
कव्वे कौन सी वस्तु नहीं खा सकते हैं  ?  एक चरित्रहीन स्त्री क्या कुछ नहीं
कर सकती है और मद्यपान करने  से उन्मत्त हुए व्यक्ति  क्या अनर्गल
बात नहीं कर सकते हैं ?

(इस सुभाषित में प्रश्न पूछने के बहाने यह्  प्रतिपादित किया गया है कि कवियों
की अन्तर्दृष्टि बहुत सूक्ष्म होती है और वे सामान्य सी प्रतीत होने वाली  घटना
के मन्तव्य का अनुमान लगा लेते हैं | इसी प्रकार कव्वे सर्वभक्षी होते हैं तथा एक
चरित्रहीन स्त्री के और मद्यप व्यक्तियों के व्यवहार का अनुमान लगाना कठिन
होता है क्यों कि उन में वाणी का संयम नहीं रहता तथा वे अनर्गल बातें करते  हैं |)

Kavayah kim na kurvanti kim na bhakshanti vaayasaah.
Pramadaa kim na kurvanti kim na jalpanti madyapaah.

Kavayah = poets.   Kim = what     Na = not.    Pashyanti = observe.
Bhakshanti = eat, devour.   Vaayasaah + crows.    Pramadaa =  a young
and wanton woman.    Kurvanti = do.    Jalpanti = talk loosely.
Madyapaah = drunkards.

i.e.     What can the poets not visualise and what the crows can not eat ?
What a wanton young woman can not do and what  loose talk the
drunkards can not indulge  into ?

( By asking questions in this Subhashita, what the author wants to
establish that the reaction of the  poets, crows, wanton women and
drunkards is unpredictable .  Poets are very far sighted, crows are
omnivorous,  and the behaviour of wanton women and drunkards is
always unpredictable.)
