Kaachh kaanchan sm sargaaddhate maarakateem dyutim.
Ashmaapi yaati devatvam mahadbhih supratishthitah.
Kaachh = ordinary glass. Kaanchan gold. Smsargaaddhate =
Sansargaat + dhatte. Sansargaat = in association with. Dhatte =
gives. Maarakateem= like an emerald gem. Dyutim =brightness.
Ashmaapi = ashma + api, Ashma = a stone,. Api = even.
Yaati = acquires. Devatvam = divinity, being treated as a God.
Mahadbhih = becomes great. Supratishthitah = celebrated.
i.e. Even a piece of ordinary glass in association with gold
(on being studded in a gold ornament) acquires the brightness of
an emerald gem, and likewise an ordinary stone slab (on being
chiseled by a sculpture as a statue of a God) acquires the status
of a God and becomes great and celebrated.
(The idea behind this Subhashita is that in association with great
and illustrious persons even ordinary persons shine in their
reflected glory.)
