आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

काचे   मणिर्मणौ  काचो  येषां  बुद्धिः प्रवर्तते |

न तेषां संनिधौ भृत्यो नाममात्रोSपि तिष्ठति ||- महासुभषित सं ग्रह(९३३८)

भावार्थ -        एक ऐसा (बुद्धिहीन )व्यक्ति जो साधारण कांच को तो एक 

मूल्यवान मणि समझता हो  और एक मणि को कांच समझता हो ,उसके 

नौकर उसके पास नाममात्र के लिये ही होते हैं | 

( इस सुभाषित का तात्पर्य  यह  है कि जिस व्यक्ति में असली और नकली 

वस्तु में भेद करने की क्षमता ही न हो तो  उसमें अपने नौकरों से काम लेने 

की  क्षमता भी नहीं होती है  |)

Kaache manirmanau kaacho yeshaam buddhih pravartate.

Na teshaam smnidhau bhrutyo naamamaatrena tishthati.

Kaache = glass.  Manirnamau =manih + manau.    Manih  =

a precious stone.   Yeshaam = whose.   Buddhih = notion,

perception.   Pravartate = concludes.   Na = not.    Teshaam=

them, Those.    Smnnidhau = in the presence of,    Bhrutyau=

servants.    Naamamaatro  = nominally,  merely in name.  

Api = even   Tishthati =stays 

i.e.    A person whose perception is to consider an ordinary 

piece of glass as a precious stone and a precious stone as 

ordinary piece of glass,  his servants are with him merely in

name.

(The idea behind this Subhashita is that a person who can not

differentiate between a real thing and its imitation , is incapable

to take work from his servants and they are with him nominally.)
