आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

असतां सङ्गदोषेण साधवो यान्ति विक्रियाम् |
दुर्योधन  प्रसङ्गेन  भीष्मो  गोहरणे  गतः     ||
                                  (महाभारत शान्ति पर्व )

भावार्थ -     झूठे और नीच व्यक्तियों   के संपर्क में रहने से सज्जन
और महान व्यक्तियों की  गरिमा ओर उच्च स्थिति को भी  बहुत अधिक
हानि पहुंचती है | देखो न , दुष्ट  युवराज दुर्योधन के साथ रहने  के कारण
 उसके आदरणीय पितामह भीष्म को  भी गायों के एक समूह को बलपूर्वक
छीनने  के कृत्य में सम्मिलित हो कर  अपयश का भागी  बनना पडा था |

( इस सुभाषित में महाभारत महाकाव्य में वर्णित एक कथानक  को उदाहरण
के रूप में प्रस्तुत किया गया है जिसमें  पाञ्चाल्र नरेश विराट  की गायों के एक
समूह  का दुर्योधन द्वारा अपहरण पितामह भीष्म की उपस्थिति में किया
गया था |)
Asataam = untrue and evil minded persons     Sangadoshena =
due to being assicuated with,    Saadhavo= honourable and
righteous persons.    Yaanti = achieve, get.   Vikriyaam = harm,
adverse change in the status.    Prasangena = episode, context.  
Goharanam = stealing a herd of cows.   Gatah = gone.

i.e.     By keeping the company of untrue and evil minded persons.
the fame and status of even the most honourable and righteous
persons is put to harm as was in the case of the grand old Patriarch
Bheeshma, who by associating himself  with the evil minded
Prince Duryodhana had to participate in stealing a herd of cows.

(Here an episode of the epic Maharabhata is refereed to, wherein
 Duryodhana steals a herd of cows belonging to King Virat, in the
presence of Bheeshma,which was like a blot  in his illustrious career.)
