आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

नत्वहम्  कामये राज्यं न स्वर्गं न  पुनर्भवम्  |
कामये  दुःखतप्तानां  प्राणिनामार्तिनाशनम्    || -श्रीमद्भागवत

भावार्थ -    हे ईश्वर !  न तो मुझे किसी राज्य की , न स्वर्ग प्राप्ति
की और पुनर्जन्म न होने  (अर्थात् मोक्ष) की कामना है  |  मेरी तो
बस यही कामना है कि मैं  इस संसार में विभिन्न दुःखों से पीडित
प्राणियों के दुःखों को दूर कर सकूं  |

(उपर्युक्त सुभाषित को  'विश्व स्वास्थ्य दिवस ' के अवसर पर एक
भारतीय चिकित्सक ने दूरदर्शन में एक वार्ता के दौरान उधृत किया
था |  इसे हम चिकित्सा पद्धति का आदर्श वाक्य  भी कह सकते हैं |)

Natvaham  kaamaye raajyam na svargam na punarbhavam.
Kaamaye duhkhataptanaam praaninaamaartinaashanam.

Natvaham = na +tu + aham,     Na = not.    Tu = and, but.
Aham = I     Kaamaye = wish.    Raajyam = a kingdom.
Svargam = heaven.   Punarbhavam = to be born again.
Duhkhataptaanaam = people suffering from various sorrows.
Praanimaartinaashanam = praaninaam +aarti+ naashanam,
Praaninaam = all living beings.    Aarti = grief, sickness.
Naashanam = destruction, abolishion.

i.e.          O God !  Neither I desire to rule a Kingdom, nor an
abode in the Heaven or deliverance from being born again
(emancipation). My only desire is that I am able to remove the
sorrow and pain of all the suffering living beings on this Earth.

(The above shloka was quoted by a doctor during the course
of a discussion in Doordarshan  on the occasion of 'World Health
Day' , and can be aptly termed as the basic tenet of Medicine.)
