Wesnewaday,17th May, 2017 आज का सुभाषित / Today' s Subhashita

तं राजा प्रणयन्सम्यक् त्रिवर्गेणाभिवर्धते |
कामात्मा विषमः क्षुद्रो दण्डेनैव निहन्यते || मनुस्मृति ७/२७

भावार्थ - वह राजा (या शासक) जो शास्त्रसम्मत नीति से
दण्ड देता है (शासन करता है )उसके राज्य में धर्म , अर्थ (धन)
तथा समाज में सौहार्द्र की सतत वृद्धि होती है | परन्तु जो राजा
कामुक , कुटिल, क्रोधी तथा क्षुद्र विचारों वाला होता है , वह उसी
दण्ड व्यवस्था ( दुःखी जनता के विद्रोह ) द्वारा स्वयं नाश को
प्राप्त हो जाता है |

Tam Raaja pranayansamyak trivargenaabhivardhate.
Kaamaatmaa vishamah kshudro dandenaiva nihanyate.e citiens

Tam = that ( reference to the King) Pranayansamyak =
Pranayat + samyak. Pranayat = promotes,promulgates.
Samyak = properly. Trivargenaabhivardhate = trivargena +
abhivardhate. Trivarga = three things namely wealth,
religion and welfare of the citizens, Abhivardhate =
grows more and more. Kaamaatmaa = sensual, licentious.
Vishamah = wicked, dishonest. Kshudro = cruel , mean.
Dandenaiva = dandena + eva . Dandena = by the same
system of punishment. Eva = really, alrready. Nihanyate=
gets punished or destroyed.

i;e; In the regime of a king who governs a country according
to the tenets of religion and law, the wealth, religiosity and
the welfare among the citizens grows more and more , But
if the King is licentious, wicked , dishonest, cruel and mean,
then he himself gets punished and destroyed by this system of
governance (in the shape of rebellion by the citizens).
