Yadyapi khadiraaranye gupto vasate hi champako vrukshah
Tadaapi cha parimalamatulam dishidishi kathayetsameeranastasya.
Yadyapi = although. Khadiraaranye = khadir + aranye. Khadir =
name of a thorny tree (botanical name acacia) Aranye = a forest.
Gupto = hidden Vaste = exists. Champako = name of a tree
which produces very fragrant flowers. Vrukshah = a tree. Tadapi =
even then. Parimalamatulam = parimal + atulam. Parimalam =
fragrance. Atulam =matchless, incomparable. Dishi-dishi =
in all directions. kathayetsameeranastasya = kathayati + sameeranah + ,
tasya. Kathayati = tells, announces. Sameeranah = blowing wind.
Tasya = its.
i.e. Although a 'Champak' tree grown in a forest of thorny 'Khadir'
trees, may otherwise remain hidden , even then the blowing wind ,
carrying the incomparable fragrance of its flowers in all directions
tells about its existence in the forest,
(This Subhashita is also an 'Anyokti' (allegory) , the idea behind it
is that a knowledgeable and virtuous person living among ordinary
persons, can not remain hidden for a long time and ultimately people
know about him due to his virtues.)
