आज का सुभाषित / Today's Sibhashita..

गात्रं  ते मलिनं तथा श्रवणयोरुद्वेगकृत्केकृतं
भक्ष्यं सर्वमपि स्वभाव चपलं  दुश्चेष्टितं  ते सदा |
एतैर्वायस  संगतोSस्य विनयैर्दोषैरमीभिः  परं
यत्सर्वत्र  कुटुम्बवत्सलमतिस्तेनैव  धन्यो भवान् || -  शार्ङ्गधर

भावार्थ -  ओ कव्वे !   तुम्हारा रंग काला है और तुम जो  'कांव  कांव '
का शोर करते हो वह् कानों को बहुत कष्टप्रद  होता है | भोजन के मामले
में तुम सर्वभक्षी हो और  स्वभाव से तुम बहुत चंचल और  चालाक हो |
इन सभी दोषों के होते हुए भी तुम अपने अन्य साथी कव्वों के साथ मित्रता
और शान्ति के साथ  एक सुखी परिवार की तरह रहते हो , और इस के लिये
तुम धन्यवाद के पात्र हो  |

उपर्युक्त सुभाषित 'काकान्योक्ति ' के  अन्तर्गत संकलित है | लाक्षणिक
रूप से इस का तात्पर्य यह है कि बाहरी रूप रंग सुन्दर न होने पर भी यदि
किसी व्यक्ति में दूसरों के प्रति मित्रता और सहयोग की  भावना तथा एक
परिवार के रूप में रहने की प्रवृत्ति हो तो ऐसा व्यक्ति समाज में सम्मानित
होता है | )

Gaatram tey malinam tathaa  shravanayo-rudvega-krut-kekrutam.
Bhakshyam sarvamapi svabhaava  chapalam dushcshthitam tey sada.
Etair-vaayasa sangatosya vinayair-doshai-rameebhih param.
Yatsarvatra  kutumba-vatsala-matis-tenaiva dhanyo  bhavaan.

Gaatram = body.   Tey = your.   Malinam = dirty (black)   Tathaa  =
so, such.   Shravanayoh = to the ears.   Udvegakruta = causing agita-
tion or anxiety.    Kekrutam = producing sound as 'kaav kaav' .
Bhakshyam = to be eaten.   Sarvamapi = sarvam + api . Sarvam =
all things   Svabhaava = nature, impulse.   Chapalam = fickle.
Dushcheshtitam =misbehaving.   Sada = always.   Etaih = these.
Vaayasa=crows.  Sangatosya=sangato +asya.   Sangato= friendship.
Asya = this.  Vinayeh =humility .  Doshaih = shortcomings, defects.
Ameebhih = grief.    Param =another.    Yatsarvatra = everywhere.
Kutumba = family.   Vatsaal = fond of.   Matih = intellect, mind.
Tenaiva =for this reason.   Dhanyo = blessed.    Bhavaan = you .

i.e.     O  crow !   Your body colour is dark black and  the sound
'kaav kaav' you produce is very shrill and causes pain in the ears.
You eat all types of food.  and  by nature you are always very fickle
minded and cunning.  But in spite of all these shortcomings,  you are
a blessed lot , because your behaviour with other crows is always very
friendly and you are fond of living as a family .

(This Subhashita is classified as a 'Kaakaanyokti. The underlying idea
behind it is that outer appearance and food habits do not matter much
if a person maintains friendly relations with others and is fond of family
life. )
