Tvameka chatakaadhaar iti keshaam na gochara.
Kimamabhoda vadaasmaakam kaarpanyoktim prateekshase.
ak bird
Tvameva = you only. Chaatakaadhaar = chaatak + aaadhaar.
Chaatak = name of a bird. Adhaara = support. Iti = this.
Keshaam = from whom Na = not. Gocharah = to be seen.,
perceptible. Kimamabhodha = kim + ambodha. Kim = what.
Ambodha=a cloud. Vadaasmaakam =vada + asmaakam.
Vada = tell. Asmaakam = to us. Kaarpanyoktim = kaarpanya +
uktim. Karpanya = parsimony, great care in spending. Uktim =
expression. Prateekshase= waits for.
i.e. O rain bearing Cloud ! Don't you see that you are the only
means of support (supply of water) for the Chaatak bird ? Tell us
as to why you are showing so much miserliness in providing water
and compelling us to wait for the rain ?

(This Subhashita is also an 'Anyokti' classified as 'Meghaanyokti' .
The underlying idea is that if the rain is not received timely and is
delayed, it causes miseries to every one. It is a folk lore that the
Chatak drinks rain water only during a specific celestial position
of stars in the sky. This has been used as an 'allegory' in this shloka,)
