Pravrushenyasya naalinyam doshah kobheeshtavarshinah.ashcha
Sharadaabhyashcha shubhratvam vada kutropayujyate.
Praavrushenyasya = pravrushe + anyasy. Pravrushe = the rainy
season. Anasya = other's. Maalinyam = darkness. Doshah =
defect. Kobheeshtavarshinah = ko + abheeshta+ varshinah.
Ko = who ? Abheeshta = desired, wished. Varshinah = raining.
Shaaradaabhyashcha = shaarada = abhyashcha. Shaarada= the
season of autumn. Abhyrshcha = cloud's Shrubhratvam =
whiteness. Vada = say, tell. Kutropayujyate = kutra =upayujyate
kutra = where. Upayujyate = useful.
i.e. Who says that the dark blackness of the rain clouds is their
defect ? Every one expects rain from them . On the other hand
what is the usefulness of pure white clouds of the autumn season ?
(The above Subhashita is also an 'Anyokti' (allegory) The underlying
idea behind it is that only fairness of face of a person is of no use
if there are no virtues in a person, A virtuous dark skinned person is
more desirable than such a person )
