आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita'

यद्यपि चन्दन विटपी विधिना फलकुसुमवर्जितो हि कृतः  |
निजवपुषैव  परेषां  तथाSपि  संतापमपनयति                    ||
                                                                       - शार्ङ्गधर

भावार्थ -    यद्यपि  विधाता ने चन्दन के वृक्ष को फलों और फूलों से
विहीन ही बना है परन्तु अपने सुन्दर गुणों  (सुगन्ध तथा शीतलता
प्रदान करना) के कारण वह लोगों के  दुःख और पीडा को दूर करता है |

(उपर्युक्त सुभाषित 'चन्दनान्योक्ति ' के रूप में संकलित है | लाक्षणिक
रूप से इस का तात्पर्य यह् है कि सज्जन और गुणवान व्यक्ति यद्यपि
धनवान नहीं होते हैं परन्तु अपने गुणों और स्वभाव के कारण वे लोगों
के कष्टों और दुःख को दूर करने के लिये सदैव तत्पर रहते हैं और समाज
में सदैव सम्मानित होते हैं  | )

Yadyapi chandan  vitapi vidhinaa phala-kusuma-varjito hi krutah.
Nija-vapushaiva pareshaam tathaapi smtaapa-mapanayati.

Yadyapi = although.   Chandan = sandalwood.   Vitapee = tree.
Vidhinaa =   by the destiny.    Phala = fruits.       Kusuma = flowers.
Varjito = without, deprived of.     Hi =  indeed.     Krutah = made.
Nija = one's own.   Vapushaiva = vapush +eva.    Vapusha =wonder-
ful beauty.    Eva = really, already.  Pareshaaam = others.   Tathaapi =
even then.                      Santaapamanayati = santaapam + apanayati.
Santaapam = suffering , pain.    Apanayati = removes, takes away.

i.e.     Although destiny has not provided flowers and fruits to a
Sandalwood tree, even then it is able to give relief  to the people from
pain and suffering due to its other beautiful qualities (of  its sweet
smell and coolness).

(The above Subhashita is classified as a 'Chandanaanyokti '.  The
idea behind it is that although noble and virtuous persons may not
be rich and powerful, due to their kind and pleasing nature they are
always helpful to others and are respected in the society.)
