यद्यपि दिशिदिशि सरितः परितः परिपूरिताSम्भसः सन्ति |
तदपि पुरन्दरतरुणसिंगतिसुखदायिनी गङ्गा ||

भावार्थ - यद्यपि पृथ्वी में प्रत्येक दिशा में जल से परिपूर्ण
अनेक नदियां बहती हैं , परन्तु देवराज इन्द्र की अप्सराओं को
सुख देने वाली एकमात्र नदी गङ्गा ही है |
(यह सुभाषित भी एक अन्योक्ति है और ' नद्यन्योक्ति' शीर्षक
से संकलित है | लाक्षणिक रूप से इस का तात्पर्य यह है कि अन्य
परिस्थितियां समान होने पर भी कुछ वस्तुएं और व्यक्ति ईश्वर
औरों धर्म से जुडे होने के कारण उनके समान ही अन्य वस्तुओं और
प्राणियों की तुलना में अधिक सम्मान और महत्त्व प्राप्त कर लेते हैं )
Yadyapi dishi-dishi saritah paritah paripooritaambhsah santi.
Tadapi purandar-tarunasimgati -sukhadaayinee Ganga.
Yadyapi = although. Dishi-dishi = in all directions. Saritah=
rivers. Paritah = surrounded by Paripooritaambhasha =
paripooritaa+ambhasah. Paripurita = full of . Ambhasah =
water. Santi = are there ,exist. Tadapi = even then. Purandara=
Indra,the king of Gods. Taruneesamgati =group of young ladies.
Sukhadaayinee = giver of pleasure. Ganga = the sacred river
Ganges, which is credited of being originated from heaven
i.e. Although many rivers full of water flow in all directions
on this Earth, there is only one river Ganges which is credited for
giving pleasure to the young women (called 'Apsara' ) of Indra,
the King of Gods.
(This Subhashita is also an "Anyokti" . The idea behind it is that
among various things and persons in spite of their having the
same qualities, some get more importance and a better treatment
being associated with religion and God.)
