आज का सुभाषित / Today's Subhashita.

राजन्दुधुक्षसि यदि क्षितिधेनुमेनां
तेनाद्यवत्समिव लोकममुं  पुषाणं   |
तस्मिश्च  सम्यगनिशं परिपुष्यमाणे
नाना फलं फलति कल्पलतेव  भूमिः || - भर्तृहरि (नीति शतक)

भावार्थ -   हे राजन !   जिस पृथ्वी पर तुम शासन करते हो  वह
एक गाय के समान है और तुम्हारी प्रजा उसके बछडे के समान
है |  जिस प्रकार गाय का दूध दुहने से पूर्व बछडे को भली प्रकार
दूध  पिला कर संतुष्ट करना  होता है और तभी गाय दूध देती है .
उसी प्रकार यदि तुम अपनी प्रजा को संतुष्ट रखते हो तो यह पृथ्वी
भी तुम्हें हर प्रकार के साधन उसी प्रकार  उपलब्ध करायेगी जिस
प्रकार देवताओं  का कल्पवृक्ष विभिन्न  प्रकार के फल प्रदान करता
है ( इच्छायें  पूरी करता है) |

(इस सुभाषित में लाक्षणिक रूप से  यह शाश्वत सत्य प्रतिपादित
किया  गया है कि किसी भी देश में समृद्धि  तभी आती है जब उसकी
प्रजा संतुष्ट होती है |  तुलसीदास जी ने भी कहा है कि - 'जासु राज प्रिय
प्रजा दुखारी | सो नृप अवसि नरक अधिकारी || )

Raajan dudhukshasi  yadi kshitidhenumenaam.
Tenaadyavatsamiva  lokamamum pushaanam.
Tasmishacha samyaganisham paripushyamaane.
Naanaa phalam phalati kalpalateva bhoomih,

Raajan - O king !   Dudhukshasi = wishes to milk. Yadi =
if.    Kshiti = the Earth.   Dhenumenaam = like a cow.
Tenaadyavatsamiva = tena +aadya + vatsam _ iva.
Tenaa = therefore.   Aadya = at first.   Vatsa = a calf .
Iva = like a.   Lokamamum =lokam +amum.  Lokam =
citizens of the Kingdom.  Amum =like a.  Pushaanam =
nourish.    Samyaganishm = samyak + anisham.  Samyak =
properly, exactly.  Anisham = constantly.  Paripushyamaanae -
by nourishing.   Naanaa = various   Phalam = fruits.   Phalati =
yields.     Kalpalateva =   kalpalataa + iva         .Kalpalataa =
reference to the 'Kalpavruksha", the divine tree of Gods,
which is said to fulfil all the  wishes.   Bhoomih =  the Earth .

i.e.    O king !   the country over which you rule is like a cow
and your citizens are like its calf.  If a person wants to milk the
cow, at first he has to properly nourish the calf.  In the same
manner if you take due care of the citizens ,  your Kingdom
will yield various resources and make it prosperous, just like
the 'Kalpalata' , the tree of Gods,  which yields all types of
fruits (fulfils all wishes).

(In the above Subhashita  by the use of a metaphor it has been
stressed that a country is  prosperous if its  Rulers take due
care of its citizens.)
